Pom Klementieff
Pom Klementieff was born on May 3rd,
1986. She studied at the Cours Florent drama school in Paris and has appeared
in films like Loup (2009), Sleepless Night (2011) and Hacker's Game (2015). She
plays the role of Mantis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Guardians of
the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame
(1999). Pom Klementieff was born in Quebec City, Canada, to a Korean mother and
French-Russian father who was working in the city as a consul for the French government.
Her grandfather was painter Eugene Klementieff. Her parents chose the name
"Pom" because it's identical in pronunciation to Korean words for
both "spring" and "tiger". Klementieff was a resident of
Canada before her family moved throughout the world because of her father's
work. They resided in Japan and the Ivory Coast, before settling in France.
Klementieff's father, who died in the age of five from cancer, was her mother.
Also, she was suffering from schizophrenia and was unable to care for her
children. Klementieff was raised with her aunt and paternal uncle. Her uncle,
who she described as "like her father" was killed when she turned 18
and her brother who was older committed suicide just seven years after, this
occasion being her birthday. Klementieff was a student at law school for a
short time following the death of her uncle to appease her aunt but did not
find the career path appealing. In France, she worked as a waitresse and
salesperson. In the Cours Florent drama academy in Paris the actress began her
journey into acting when she was 19. After a few months of studies, she won an
acting competition which awarded her free tuition for two years with the
school's top teachers. Klementieff's first professional acting job was the
French independent film Apres lui (2007), portraying the stepdaughter of the
lead character, who was played by Catherine Deneuve. Filming the scenes
required three days. The plan was for Klementieff to push another person down a
set staircase and then fall down. Gael Mostl kept the shots in the final film.
Loup (2009) was her debut film with a leading role. It's an French movie that
tells the story of a tribe of Siberian mountain reindeer herders. Klementieff
was filming at the camp that was located hours away from the closest village.
It was there that temperatures dropped to zero.
